A Unified Approach.
A unified approach to Wellbeing is an integral system that brings together all aspects of one’s personhood.
This is reflected in the Māori approach to holistic Wellbeing, Te Whare Tapa Whā where the premise rests on the interdependant nature of :
Taha Tinana - Physical wellbeing
Taha Hinengaro - Mental wellbeing
Taha Wairua - Spiritual wellbeing
Taha Whānau - Family wellbeing
Although the human condition may appear complex in nature, it does not function well in isolation. So we require a more integrated approach to developing a sense of balance. This means becoming inclusive without negating what we consider to be distasteful or difficult.
A prerequisite for cultivating Wellbeing rests on the development of open-mindedness. A liberal attitude is extremely important as opposed to having a narrow-minded & dogmatic approach to life and to others.
There is a fine line between working with oneself and becoming obsessed with oneself. Though, neither should our concern for others become a kind of preoccupation or therapy for us - this is simply a neurotic tendency that helps us to forget ourselves.
In contemporary workplaces, there is a revolution taking place primarily in the field of mindfulness based programs which are commonly accessible to corporate, private, educational and health sectors with an emphasis on unlocking the power of a more focused mind.
